The gallery was opened in 1877, the name was given in honor of E.B. Walker is an industrialist and philanthropist who has allocated funds for construction. The building was erected in a calm manner of neoclassicism.

Beautiful paintings by some great artists of the past. My personal favourite being the death of Nelson. As to the modern art section, let's just say I don't get it. Suppose it's down to personal choice. It's a good place to visit overall.


Really good collection of art pieces. There is an incredible young kids play area too with toys, colouring, glueing and dressing up corner. All free to use. Great way to get the kids out and into arts and craft

Such an interesting place. Great one off exhibitions. Particularly the most recent 'An English Lady's Wardrobe' and previous to that 'The Terracotta Warriors'. Worth travelling from Leeds to see. Great cafe with cakes ! ?
