Place de la Bastille
Paris, FranceThe area of the end of the XVIII century, built on the site of the defensive fortress of the Bastille. For almost 400 years, the fort served as a prison for political prisoners and became for the people a symbol of the hated monarchy. After the famous assault on the Bastille on July 14, 1789, it was decided to dismantle the structure. A wide area was paved in its place. In July 1840, the July Column was erected in honor of the July Revolution.
