More amazing than I imagined. All the great Spanish painters are displayed, Goya most notably. Photos in book don't do justice to these works. Many.. Read more » are huge and the detail visible in person is incredible. Crowds are the only detraction. It can be difficult to really enjoy these masterworks with tour groups, like ours, wandering around. If you did it right I bet you could spend a week there, 2 or 3 hours at a time.

Read more »y and walking through you can truly capture the development of Spanish fine art. The contrast between earlier Goya and his Black paintings is especially dramatic and interesting. Couldn't recommend coming here enough.

Beautiful. Last two hours are free but you have to get tickets there! Also, I believe there is a 50% discount at the museum store during its last hour.. Read more » open. Found out admission is also free for students ages 18-25 with a student ID at any time. Very large, so you might need to visit a few times to truly enjoy. Planning on coming by again.

And breezed right in at my scheduled time. It’s big enough that the crowds seem spaced out. I never felt like there were to many people in one area. I’ve been to several of the great museums in the world. Prado is definitely near the top! One thing to note. As I was leaving. There was a very long line of people in the queue for the free late hour admission. Not sure it would be worth it…..

The religious paintings and all the references to the Greek mythology took me aback! All the paintings are so beautifully preserved that make you believe they were painted just yesterday!
They have discounts for students and the elderly as well. Make sure you book your time for at least half a day to fully visit all the floors and read all the information on every splendid piece of art.
You can’t claim you have visited Madrid unless you visit this magnificent heaven of art!

I was a bit disappointed with the Prado museum, maybe because I had high expectations. I read that it's in the same league as Louvre, Hermitage in Rus.. Read more »sia and British Museum. Well, I've been to all these places and Prado is not in the same league. It has mainly paintings (small number of sculptures) and the number of paintings is less than in other museums I mentioned. But the bigger problem is that many paintings look alike. The variety is pretty low. There is the limit on how many paintings of Jesus and saints you can see. For me the best room was the Hieronymus Bosch room and judging by the number of people in that room I was not the only one who thought so. In addition they don't allow you to take pictures inside! (but I did take a few). I allocated 2 hours for the visit, but was out after one hour. They do have a nice cafeteria near the entrance.

Be warned that there are no maps or suggested routes. We spent a good 20 minutes trying to get ourselves situated and figure out a path to walk through the museum. Unfortunately, this is one of the many museums that are rich in artwork, but have not invested in much of a "guide path" to help visitors work their way through the collection. However, I would absolute come again without any hesitation, just to see the art. If I were to do it over again, I would have arranged for a guide.

Paintings there are good quality. I would say number 1 quality. I didn't like what I saw in Paris. Le Louvre felt like some flea market, and someone around me hadn't taken a shower (at Le Louvre in Paris) and they had the flu (these guys in the museum. I will not go back (I will tell them by the way).

Read more »ey were even selling tickets for after the museum was supposedly closed that day and saw several people getting their entry refused when they showed up despite the time on their ticket being right). When brought up to the staff they just said it wasn't their problem and shoved us out the door. Staff in the museum was pretty rude and follow you around like a criminal wherever you go. I went May 2021, tourism in Spain is just starting up again so the place was pretty empty and I could literally tell staff would follow me around room to room which felt very strange.

No lockers, and no commercial locker facilities nearby. Back to hotel, drop backpack, back to museum. When I initially got my ticket, I was told I could return to get a *timed* ticket to enter the special exhibit. I asked what time I needed to return to ensure I got a ticket, and they said at latest an hour before closing at 8pm. Not knowing how long I would be in main museum, I chose not to get a timed ticket. When I went back to get ticket for special exhibition at 5:15pm I was told none were available. I asked if I could get one for the next day. No, sorry. That's a bummer. And why are photos not allowed???

With the covid, locker have been removed (it is indicated on the tick.. Read more »et, but without highlighting and no reminder - maybe you forgot that many of your customers are still tourists).
I have been refused the entrance with no empathy from the staff and without even getting a workaround for this problem while I had bough the ticket (just that is not our problem, while it clearly is as it looks like you are not able to clean lockers while other museums can...).
You should take care of you customers and staffs as much as you take care of the art you are exposing !

The Prado is an amazing museum with an incredible collection of masterpieces from some of Spain's most famous artists including Velazquez, El Greco, G.. Read more »oya, Picasso and Miro. The collection is enormous so plan on spending a fair bit of time here. Do grab a guide which shows where the more famous pieces are displayed and visit the Prado's website to get suggestions on what to see if your time is limited. Regular admission is 15E but it is free 6:00pm to 8:00pm Monday to Saturday and 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday. However, unless you arrive very early (a minimum one hour in advance) you will spend a long time in line (we gave up after 20 minutes). If your time in Madrid is limited and/or paying 15E is not an issue don't waste your precious time trying to get in for free.
