The museum is located on the territory of the Royal Palace of the Buda Castle. The gallery is famous for the fact that in its halls the works of Hungarian artists (or works created in Hungary) are exhibited. The gallery exhibits more than 100 thousand works of art created over several centuries. Several exhibitions are open on 4 floors: stone and wooden sculpture, medieval painting, canvases of later eras until the 20th century. There is no 'wow' effect if you have been to Saint-Petersburg's or Moscow's galleries. It's not necessary to spent time there. |

I visited this venue for the very first time in my life and I was impressed, how huge it is and how reach this exhibition/collection is, indeed. Espec.. Read more »ially the grandiose halls and paintings are those, which I felt in love with immediately, but the altars with wings from many centuries ago were also magnificent.
It's totally overwhelming to walk through halls, in which kings were crowned only hundred years earlier...
An amazing addition to the visit of the Gallery was the opportunity to enter into the dome over the entire palace in Buda.
Sadly, on some places in the building were remains of the communistic/socialistic architecture seeable... |

Very nice gallery with large collection of Hungarian arts of different times. There are also pieces from some famous painters such as Cézanne, Gauguin.. Read more », Renoir... if you like landscape and portrait painting, the gallery is definitely the right place for you. Panoramic view from the dome. |

The Hungarian National Gallery (also known as Magyar Nemzeti Galéria), was established in 1957 as the national art museum. It is located in Buda Castl.. Read more »e in Budapest, Hungary. Its collections cover Hungarian art in all genres, including the works of many nineteenth- and twentieth-century Hungarian artists who worked in Paris and other locations in the West. The primary museum for international art in Budapest is the Museum of Fine Arts.
The National Gallery houses Medieval, Renaissance, Gothic art, and Baroque Hungarian art. The collection includes wood altars from the 15th century.
The museum displays a number of works from Hungarian sculptors such as Károly Alexy, Maurice Ascalon, Miklós Borsos, Gyula Donáth, János Fadrusz, Béni Ferenczy, István Ferenczy and Miklós Izsó. It also exhibits paintings and photographs by major Hungarian artists such as Brassai and Ervin Marton, part of the circle who worked in Paris before World War II.[citation needed] The gallery displays the work of artists such as Mihály Munkácsy and László Paál. The museum also holds paintings by Henrik Weber, Károly Markó the Elder, József Borsos, Miklós Barabás, Bertalan Székely, Károly Lotz, Pál Szinyei Merse, István Csók, Béla Iványi Grünwald, Tivadar Kosztka Csontváry (Ruins of Ancient Theatre, Taormina), József Rippl-Rónai (Models), and Károly Ferenczy.

This would be a good museum but the staff is not the best part, don't be surprised that at 17:32 you are kicked out while (theoretically, officially) .. Read more »the museum is open until 18:00. Very rude ! |
