The Cathedral of Moscow, where the Patriarch conducts services. The temple was built in honor of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 according to the project of Konstantin Ton, the work lasted more than forty years. In Soviet times, the building was blown up, and the Palace of Soviets appeared in its place, and later the Moscow pool. The cathedral was rebuilt in 1994-1997. and now has the maximum external resemblance to the original. Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Cathedral was built according to order of the Emperor of All Russia, Tsar of Poland and Grand Duke of Finland Alexande.. Read more »r I (1777-1825). That cathedral was supposed to immortalize victory ove Napoleon I in 1812 and in 1813-1814. Construction started in 1812 according to the project of Russian architect of Swedish origin Carl Magnus Witberg (1787-1855). But construction had been stopped in 1825 because of opened case of embezzlement. Works were resumed in 1837 according to new design of Russian architect of German origin Constantin Thon (1794-1881). Construction had been accomplished in 1860. Communists blew that cathedral up in 1931 and built the swimming pool instead. Present cathedral was recreated in 1994-1999. Moscow, ?? The original church, built during the 19th century, took 40 years to build, It was destroyed in 1931 on the order of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the current church was rebuilt on the site between 1995 and 2000. Its one of the beautiful church in Moscow! No photography is allowed inside! Read more »s not only beautiful on the outside but also incredible once you get in, I highly recommend going in to see the wall paintings and the enormity and beautiful paintings of the dome. Moreover, I recommend buying the tickets to the terrace though I must say there are plenty of stairs, so be prepared for that, but the views from up there are incredible. |

What a marvelous architecture. The church is located opposite to the Kremlin Moscow. You will need to walk 1.5 Km approx to reach there. The traffic c.. Read more »an be really fast but you have sufficient walkways to cross over to the other side of the Kremlin. You can explore its park which is big and a good place to spend a peaceful time. You can enter the church free of cost and it looks beautiful inside. If you want to reach the rooftop of the cathedral you will need to pay 400 rubles for it. You can make payments by cash or cards to capture some stunning views of the Moscow city. Be prepared to climb the terrace using stairs. They do have provision for lifts however, it seems they don't go direct. You need to be patient. Around the cathedral, you can also book tickets for cruise boats. |
