Camp Nou is a stadium owned by the Barcelona Football Club. Why Camp Know? In Catalan, this phrase means "New Field". Camp Nou hosted World Cup and European Championship football matches. The stadium is also used as a playground for famous artists. Michael Jackson, U2, Frank Sinatra, Luciano Pavarotti and other world stars have appeared here. The Camp Nou was built between 1955 and 1957 and was designed by architects Francesc Mittance Miro and Josep Soteras Mauri. Initially, the object was called FC Barcelona Stadium, and its current name was established in 2001. The first renovation of Camp Nou Stadium was in 1981, it was expanded to 120,000 spectators in connection with the FIFA World Cup. But already in 1998, UEFA introduced new rules - to remove standing places, providing such fan zones with seats. For Camp Nou to remain spacious, the lawn had to be lowered. Take the stadium tour. The team was away when I visited, so there were plenty of people on the grounds. But no where near the amount I'm sure of when they are in town. They allow you to walk on the pitch. The grass is lovely by the way. The trophy room is beyond impressive. The magnitude and gravity of this team to the city and country are both very evident, and it was a pleasure to be able to experience this little piece of sport history. |
