Memorial dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attack on the twin towers on September 11, 2001. The complex is installed on the site of former skyscrapers that collapsed as a result of an air assault. Waterfalls collapse into two large foundation pools, oak alleys are planted around. Memorial plaques are fixed on the parapets, which lists all the names of those who died that day. Near the pools is a museum.

As you make your way through, there are a number of exhibits that will touch you emotionally, possibly unexpectedly. For me, it was seeing all the photos of everyone who passed on 9/11. This includes the towers, planes, Pentagon, etc. Off to the side in a separate room, were images of the victims, one by one, with audio of a family member or friend saying something about that person.
Be prepared to see mangled steel and antennas, parts of the aircraft that hit the towers, and firetrucks that were destroyed. The museum is several levels beneath street level, so you get to see the partial beams and foundation when it was first constructed. One of the first exhibits you see is about the construction.
When I say phenomenal, it is! Kudos to the architects and developer who came together and crafted this entire site. Both above and under ground. I don’t know who they are, but it’s worth the mention as urban renewal and architecture is something I’m interested in.

When one thinks of NYC, they think loud, busy, chaotic. The 9/11 memorial, however, lends a calming sense of peace right in the middle of all of the chaos. Walking around each of the fountains, one will find the names of those lost which may have a white rose placed on it. The staff goes through each day and adds a white rose to the names of people whose birthday it is that day.
While there, it seemed as if time stood still and all differences were set aside. Such a captivating experience!

You can feel the weight of the area, and the large installations only serve to deepen the somberness of the experience. Both sections of the outdoor memorial fountains are placed directly where the towers once stood, and feature raised slabs tastefully naming each person who departed from us as a result of the attack. The museum is an entirely different beast. The atmosphere is so heavy, and beautifully represents its purpose.
To be completely honest, it feels a bit gauche to attempt to critically review an area of such significance any further, so I'll leave it at this: you won't regret visiting. Whether it's just to the two memorials outdoors, or the museum as well, you will remember every bit of it.

Today is 9/11 (Melbourne is 14 hours ahead of New York)
It was 19 years ago, 2001, I turned on the television in Melbourne to watch late night shows and news, and most were from the US. Then, direct news broadcast from CNN showed repeatedly the moments when the huge planes flew through the Twin Towers,, and black dots fell from the tall buildings. Sadly these ,black dots were desperate human beings trying to escape from such horrific incident.
In the streets, people were steaming and crying, and everyone appeared to be in a state of trance, having no idea what was going on. Indeed, the world actually came to an end for many people on this day.
The 9/11 Memorial Museum, exhibits the remnants of the Twin Towers and the properties of the deceased. Although the displays of the museum are excellent, I was rather disturbed by what I saw.
I question the mentality of human race, who cannot live in harmony. There is so much hatred that leads to conflict and disaster. When will human learn to make this a better and safer world?
